Rabies-Wildlife out in the daytime

While a lot of animals such as raccoons, opossums, skunks and others are nocturnal animals, keep in mind, just because you see them out in the daytime does not mean they have rabies, or are otherwise ill.

It’s a common myth that certain wildlife seen out in the daytime have rabies.

Especially during the spring and summer months, these animals will go out in search for food during the daylight hours.

Mother’s are often out searching for food during the day, and a lot of times you will see babies outside during the day as well.

Please do not immediately jump to the conclusion that an animal has rabies, just because it’s out during the day.

A raccoon that is responsive, alert, and behaving in a normal matter during the day is generally fine.
